    Default Some laptop upgrades

    werthliving.com

Before I started this new hobby of mine I thought my laptop was pretty good. That all changed when I started shooting pictures in raw and then have to convert them over to JPEG.

My current setup is a Dell Studio 1537 with a T9550 2.66 processor, 320 GB 5400 RPM hard drive, 6 GBs of ram and all other good stuff. So recently I bought a home newtwork drive that stores 2 TB and a 500 GB portable to carry with me and store all my pictures. Transferring pictures to the portable is easy since I use the Esata port for quick transfers, but going wireless to the network drive took time, even at 300 Mbps. So then I upgraded my routing system which can handle up to 600 Mbps, which now limited my laptop to the 300 Mbps.

With that being said on Monday I bought the T9900 3.06 processor, SEAGATE MOMENTUS XT 500GB 7200 SSD HYBRID, INTEL WIFI LINK 6300, and TYCO Laptop Wireless Mini PCI PCI-E Internal Antenna. I'm hoping with these upgrades it performs a lot quicker with the transfers of everything and now get up to 450 Mbps with the new card and adding the third antenna.

How do you normally transfer pic to your PC? USB from Camera to computer? Does the new laptop support USB 3.0? What OS does it run? Windows 7 64 bit?

I just take the SD card out of the camera and stick it into the laptop and export everything into Lightroom. N0 USB 3.0 as my computer is already two years old and yes I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

I tell you though, my computer is a lot quicker now. The hard drive had the biggest effect, but man its like a brand new computer. Wireless speed is now at 450 Mbps.
