    Default INTERNET SPEED

    werthliving.com

I have no clue where I should have posted this thread - but I get high speed internet via Mediacom cable. So, I put it in the Cable TV section. Anyway, I swear I'm never happy with my internet speed here and seems I can not relate to what I have vs what they tell me I have vs what others have. I went to the Speedtest site and here is what I get. I think mine has never been this good...so not sure if a fluke or what. I think mine generally has download speeds around 4-5 mbs.

I have Verizon DSL and I wouldn't even want to know how slow it is..trouble is I have little choice..I had Roadrunner and there is a problem in the building I live in..and they couldn't fix it..would lose service at times...a least this DSL connection rarely goes down..

    ATT 6mbps DSL

Your speed is good GOS, I can stream Vudu HDX at this speed without issue. Sounds like there is more to your problem.

Yeah, I figured 11mbs was good. I know it's never been that good. Mine is more like what yours says typically. So, if that's the case - why would mine jump up to 11mbs?

I dunno, Ive seen anything from heat to moisture affecting lines if something was not right, then modem/router issues. My DSL in Charleston Sc would crap out after a hard rain for a good couple of hours, until they fixed something. Is it better/worse at night or in colder/warmer situations.

Usually atleast around here cable modem speed is 10mbs. So here your speed would be great. Verizon DSL is 3 mbs down unless you are a business then you can get 6 but you pay out the butt for it. Like Elway said if there is a bad connection then moisture could affect your speeds. Also I've been told at certain times of the day when their are lots of people online it could slow your speeds a little. You can call your cable company and see what your download speed is that you are paying for then keep an eye on it for a week and if you are not getting what you pay for call them and tell them something is wrong. I'd also store the pics of your download speeds also.

Oh something else. A wireless router will slow you down a bit if you are on a wirless laptop. Distance from your router will slow it down as well. The more people that are using the internet wireless in the house will slow it down considerably especially if someone is downloading music or video at the same time you are on the net.

Ok for some damn reason I can't do a screen shot of my speeds to post the pic but it was 10.65 down and 1.07 up. That was wireless so that's good cause 10 is what it should be here.

Yes. Yeah, the test you refer to was without Netflix running. Only my laptop. It's typical speed and it sucks. IMO

Again, with Netflix movie in "pause" mode. Interesting. So I guess even if you are streaming, if you pause, the streaming stops. I just learned something.
