So, question for AVJ as we are on the Insiders Thread: Appreciate that is just prior to CES, and that you ain't going to be giving away anything commercially sensitive......but....This OLED business is confusing me. Why do people seem to be talking about OLED v 4K, as though it is some sort of format war ? Surely the 2 are not mutually exclusive, and in fact if you want a decent 4K Panel, it needs to be OLED rather than LCD anyway ? What is the point of 4K LCDs ? Wouldn't touch one with a bargepole, would much rather have a decent 1080P plasma.
So, is OLED a goer, or not ? To me 4K is just marketing, a bit like the 3D hype a few years ago which everyone has now forgotten and couldn't give a monkey's about. Where is the bandwith for 4K transmissions coming from ? Where is the 4K "Bluray" format ? It ain't happening. No content = 4K white elephant panels.

Hi AVJ, I am curious if Panasonic is planning a larger push in consumer mobile devices in NA going forward? Seems this is where Samsung really makes their profit the last few years. Or is Panny going to largely step away from CE in general (not just TVs)?

You have to remember, you're in a shrinking minority of those who wouldn't touch an LCD with a bargepole, as you put it. A 4K LCD with full-array local dimming akin to the Sharp Elite wouldn't be that bad (aside from the viewing angles). Marketing is the main driving force behind 4K at the moment. "Everyone" has forgotten 3D? It's still afloat, even if only just, and a new glasses-free solution will debut at CES possibly rekindling interest in the fledgling format. I agree with you about the lack of 4K content availability.

OK, so when I mute the sound of the music accompanying the slide preparation on my July built ZT60, I do hear a hum. Going behind the TV, I can hear the fans turning but very very faintly. The hum seems to be emanating from the center of the TV and not from the area where the fans are. The best I can describe the hum is like the sound a small office fridge makes. Is this hum the dreaded "fan noise" and if so, how much of it goes away with the foam fix applied? Thanks

I had the hum when I ran the slides. When I stopped and had TV on the hum was gone. I think the slides put a lot on the TV as it's all one color which is never that way normally. IMO of course.

Interesting, so maybe I need to listen to the TV running normal material first... About 35 more hours of slides and then I'll move the TV to it's final location and test it then. It is currently sitting on the floor (on a thick rug); could this be contributing to the hum I wonder...

If there is proper ventilation then no. Just finish up the slides then watch some HD TV withe the sound lower and see. Give it a litle time as I noticed the TV was warmer right after I finished the slides. Next day no hum.
It's a great TV. I have not had mine calibrated yet and use THX Cinema. Some say its a little greener in face / flesh tones but I don't see that. Of course I am red/green colorblind. Lol

Don't make any judgements when running slides...when you do get set up and start watching at your "normal" viewing distance then you can judge if you have any noises that you can hear.

+1...I actually would be open to considering an "Elite" like LCD but I think full-array is gone...and 4k resolution could actually revive 3D without glasses..but I think CE companies would be reluctant to invest more money in 3D after the initial low response...

    ^PaulTV's, a "legitimate" scalping outfit.

The noise that my May 2013 build manifested in the first 300 hours (mostly slides) did not subside. I have yet to call Panasonic for the fix...I have until June. Sometimes it bothers me (low volume scenes or subdued volume viewing late at night) at 10 feet out, the rest of time it does not.

PS. Vizio is delving into a crippled implementation of full-array screens thanks to being limited to, I believe, 8 dimming zones.

I don't get it. Where's the love for 3D? I watched 3D for the first time on my new 60ST60 and thought it looked fantastic! It was the movie documentary "Tthe Cave of Forgotten Dreams", and feel it definitely raised the bar on the viewing experience. While I don't recommend many movies for 3D, it really seems to shine with certain content, iem nature, wildlife, natural wonders, etc. The 3D feature is a nice bonus, and glad to have it for certain content.

I assume this was the $10k price you were linking. I think PaulTV's was legitimately embarrassed enough to remove their $10k ZT60 from Amazon's marketplace (or somebody was foolish enough to buy it...). $4200, while sky high, is just a little over SRP.
