A great substitute for salt is using a seasoning blend...I love the Southwest Chipotle blend..I use it in my pasta sauce to give it some spice without adding salt...plenty to choose from here

Well my cholesterol crept up to 245 a few months back and BP is high. Been a slug and weight up a little. BP is directly related to exercise for me. Well I went on a high seafood diet and brought it down to 215. Hoping next time will be lower. Started back walking and using bowflex and weights and starting cardio this week. I will let you know when BP drops and get off the meds. That's my goal is loose the bp meds.

Just be careful about "losing BP meds"..I thought I could do that once and I did for awhile and then I had a surge and ended up in the emergency room with 220 BP readings and climbing...it took them hours to get it down and I learned my lesson...I didn't want to ever take anything on a regular basis and I thought by eating high potassium foods and exercise and my weight(and I was pretty slim)I could do it..and my BP was 120/80 for about a month and then it shot up with no warning..I was lucky because my cholesterol was low..but I will never make that mistake again...at times I had aniexty problems and it would cause my BP to rise...being on BP meds actually was a blessing in disguise...I found an awesome cardiologist and he put me on a beta blocker...which as a secondary benefit helps me with aniexty problems by slowing down my heart..

Let me suggest something to you...I use "liquid" fish oil and it helps with BP and some people think it aids in the reduction of cholesterol levels...not sure if that is true...but it will benefit your overall health...if your doctor says that it won't interfere with your meds I would advise you to try it...here is the one I buy

If you want to really juice...don't waste your money on the Jack LaLanne juicers...they waste the best part of the fruit and veggies..and just give you the juice...If you can come up with $400 buy a blendtec...they are awesome...better than a vitamix IMO...I bought one thru Costco and you get an 8 year warranty...you can make just about anything with them....I see now they have a lower starting price with one jar included...check this out
I bought the Brevelle. I love it.

But you are right about just eating right. Taste great and you feel so much better. It's a win win in my book.

Smaller meals is the key. Moderation.

I hate to tell you this but if you are talking about THIS...you aren't really getting the real benefits you need...anything that is an "extractor" is leaving behind the pulp..which is very very important...there is a reason that the Blendec costs more...it's more powerful because it takes the whole fruit or veggie and uses everything and doesn't discard anything...in some cases you are discarding the most important part of the fruit or veggie as pulp..I made the same mistake when I was buying the Jack LaLanne machines.....

I have really good health which is a rarity in the family. BP is always low 80/50 and my cholesterol is within normal/low range limits. Although I'm anemic and a 'free bleeder' I do just fine. I do have Junkie's headaches but, mine stop when my nose starts bleeding. Then I'm back to 'normal' for a month or two.
What I find that has helped me for years has been to eat a good breakfast (whole grain cereals); a decent sized lunch (chicken salad or tuna salad and raw vegi's) then for dinner I usually keep it light and I don't eat anything after 6p.... My snacks are fresh fruits/vegi's n dip and I drink lots of water (junkie got me into that one). I take a multivitamin daily and sometimes extra fish oil especially if I haven't eaten any fresh fish for a while. All of my foods are either baked or grilled. IF I fry anything (chicken etc) it's always done in olive oil and I don't put breading on any meats. I use sea salt if I salt anything at all.
Since I live in the city, I walk all over the place or I ride my bike that's how I get 'exercise' or I'm up/down my stairs 15,000 times a day. I'm not a 'sickly' person, I'm just accident prone. :D

I understand that. The pulp is just fiber and I replace that in my body by taking fiber daily. I prefer juicing because of the ease. I know all the pros and cons between juicers.

My Wife only uses Olive Oil. Even when she cooks popcorn (we never buy the nuked crap) which she eats daily.

Pulp isn't just fiber...in many cases that is where the nutrients are and removing fiber from the equation means you are prone to sugar spikes..the sugar in oranges is fructose...which is converted to triglycerides in the liver...I'm sure you know what effect that can have on your liver and heart long term...so if you are taking fiber WITH your juiced orange drink it MIGHT be effective...but taking fiber separately won't help that situation...so having the fiber "blended" makes much more sense...not to mention that machines like Blendtec are much easier to clean..because you are using the entire product and just a little dish soap until running water does the trick..the addition of "blended" fiber also slows the digestion process...which is what you want..

You should try using an "air popper"...it's healthier and it practically eliminates the carbs from popcorn..then spray on olive oil or something other than butter...next time you are in a grocery store find popcorn kernels in a bag and look on the back and most have the carbs listed and what they would be if you used an air popper..BIG DIFFERENCE...I've been using the same air popper for years...never wears out...here is an example of what I mean HERE

I use THIS to spray Olive Oil on everything...keeps me from putting to much on my pans or food

I jest - but honestly, you guys that eat healthy....it's impressive. I go in spurts....mostly unhealthy, but every once in a while, I get crazy and eat good for a month...then resort to my tried and true ways.

The sugars in fruit is harmless to the liver because it's not processed. Processed sugars is what your liver has difficulties with.

First...yes the sugars in fruit are better than processed versions..they are better because they don't raise your blood sugar rapidly BECAUSE of the natural soluble fiber found in fruits...but as I said in my earlier post when you remove the natural sugar from fruits without the fiber this changes things...but most fruit has less sugar and is lower on the glycemic index than their processed counterparts...but you can get into trouble by consuming excessive amounts of "extracted" natural sugar without the rest of the pulp

This is an example of one orange WITH the pulp...now envison you taking several oranges and extracting the sugar without the pulp...the ratings for glycemic index are WITH the pulp..HERE if natural sugars had no negative impact on your health they wouldn't be listed under "the bad" category

Go down to the paragraph that starts with "the authors describe" HERE

Just because natural sugars in fruits aren't processed doesn't mean that they can't be harmful...especially if taken in high amounts without the benefit of fiber to slow down the process...

This is actually an article that mentions your juicer...read the very first thing under 6 things to consider HERE
