Went in today and checked out both sets again to make a final decision. Both was playing The Dark Knight Rises. Man... Those deep and inky blacks from the Elite is just mind blowing. Anyway to make a long story short, Magnolia priced matched it when I showed them that BestBuyPC.com Had it for $6750 (their price is $7499). And since my wife and I were Premiere Silver awards member, they knocked off another $100. So I ended getting the Elite Pro 70.

Btw.. Do this sets need to be broken in? Like with the the break in slides from D-Nice? I did the same with my Kuro Elite for 7 days straight before I did any calibration settings.

    Replacement unit #3
Folks, put Cnet settings in and you be the judge, with MovieTHX and CNET settings this is how this brand new 70" set looks. I need help to figure out how to resolve it, this is 3rd repalcement unit from Sharp. Any prof calibrators have an opinion on what it can be? Pictures are attached but I really cannot say that I do not see a problem, I see it clearly, camera actually masked it a little. Please tell me how to mitigate it. These spots are indeed green and do show through on the white scenes.

Please take a careful look now and advise if you can. I would like to keep the set but ... how can I? $7K TV and this level of performance?

This problem has also come up on the AVS Sharp Elite Owners Thread. One person mentioned seeing the same green pattern on a non-Elite Sharp. I believe that both of them had November build dates.

Does it show up during program material? Based on your photos, my guess is yes it does. I purchased my Sharp Elite 60 in August, and it had both a horizontal and vertical band that bent color toward yellow. I returned it and received a set that had slight DSE in a similar pattern, but didn't alter the color spectrum. I've ultimately been very happy with the set. But I don't think I'd be happy with the display you photographed. Can you, perhaps, request a set built in a different month? You should see the build date on the box.

Interested in hearing about peoples experience with AutoCal on their Sharp Elite display. How accurate is AutoCal, and what can I expect from it?

I'm hesitant to purchse CalMAN just to find a less than suitable calibration by AutoCal. I'm no where near savvy enough to calibrate the Elite myself with the overwhelming amount of controls it has, so I'm considering AutoCal.

The other day, I went to my local Best Buy and they already pulled all the Elites out. I asked the sales guy and he said they had End of Life label. Discontinued at Best Buy.

Not sure if the Elite is still around or it is just not at Best Buy?

Are there any full array LED sets (any brand) available now? Or they are all edge Lit now?

Just to update here in case folks were not aware.

    From twice,

“Sharp Electronics recently notified specialty A/V dealers handling the jointly administered Sharp/Pioneer Elite TV line that it will not be offering any new models under the premium brand this year.

Jim Sanduski, Sharp strategic product marketing VP, told TWICE that the company has been unable to acquire a key component part needed for the advanced TVs, which has forced it to put plans on hold for any new products for the foreseeable future.

He added the company has sold through inventory on models from the prior year.

"Due to the unavailability of a component, current 60- and 70-inch Elite LED TVs (model numbers PRO60X5FD and PRO70X5FD, respectively) have been discontinued and are no longer available,” Sharp confirmed in a statement Monday. "

I wonder what this mysterious "component" is, considering the Elite are basically just LED lit LCDs, the extra sauce that makes it better than other designs would be nearly all software/firmware control of the array of LEDs wouldn't it?

Is anyone looking to sell their sharp Elite 70"??? This is the only TV I wanted since 2011 and I can find a 70" for sale anywhere. I don't give a crap about 4k.
