    Default Sony Hx950 the best?

    werthliving.com

Hey guys. I'm usually on the plasma side of the forums but I've been reading up on led TVs for a while now.

Can most people agree that the hx950 FALD is still the best led picture ever made, which is also still available online? I know the sharp elite was also awesome but it's very hard to find and a lot more money.

Also is the hx950 Sony's last FALD set ever?

    Mike

really? I read the CNET reviews for both and I'm pretty sure CNET gave the slight edge to the hx950. They were both very similar though. What was better about the 929 compared to the 950?

I post heavily on AVS in the 929 0wner and the 950 owners threads (2200 post) the 950 is a re-bagded 929 and a LOT! of 950 0wner complain about banding issues. But either way both are exceptional sets and the last of the Local dimming full array TV's, from Sony. At least for nowprojected new FALD 65" sets would cost approx 8+K.

first place they would have to remachine to produce those sets, secondly they would have to find a panel builder to produce the panels sans any of he previous problems (banding, etc.) those problems cost Sony a fortune in replaced sets and loss of consumer confidence. So to do it again they would have to "re-invent" the Full array panels to be trouble free. That is the biggest reason they abandon FALD and moved on to 4K (another, not so consumer accepted panel) and they are putting ll their eggs into OLED and higher end panels.

^But as you noted 2 posts above they're not abandoning FALD, and I have a sneaking suspicion that they have few eggs if any remaining in the OLED basket. On the outside, it appears more likely that they raised the white flag. LG will have to hold up that fort in the meantime.

Hey Vinnie, I always see your posts on Avs in the panny plasma threads. I can't post there though since I was perma banned for some dumb reason. you own a vt60 if I'm not mistaken. Don't you also have experience with the s60? I just bought a s64 on eBay a week ago. Hope it will hold me over until OLED becomes affordable. I'm hoping it will be good for the next 5 years. Coming from a Panasonic u50, I'm hoping the s64 will be a noticeable improvement.

Wish I could of gotten an st60 but couldn't find one and passed on a nib 65st60 for $2500 3 weeks ago...

Nope...only have a ZT60 actually. I only had Kuro until 2013, so I can't be sure how much of an improvement you'll see.

I should further note that by using "only," I was attempting to define my lack of experience with Panasonic plasma outside of the ZT so I couldn't really offer anything in the way of comparisons between other models, past or present(ish). I'm happy to have grabbed their late greatest panel ever.

I'm dabating weather to sell my s64 and buy an hx950 for 3k on amazon from an authorized retailer. I still have a nib 65s60 I've been trying to sell for 3 weeks but I can't get a decent offer for it. worst comes to worst, I return it to costco for the $1200 I paid for it.

The thing that worries me about the s64 is the dimmness of the tv (waveboy from avs would know what I'm talking about...he is annoying though) and the fact that I want to game and possibly play old school games on the tv, I don't want to have to worry about IR. It annoys me. The hx950 seems like it would match if not best the s64 blacks and will obviously be brighter without the worry of IR. What do you guys think?

PS...saw the Lg OLED in best buy today. looked good but wasn't blown away. Probably because the source was crap playing the Heat-Bulls game.

The only throwback of the XBR vs Panny is the off axis viewing problem (which for me is a no brain-er as I am the sole viewer But my Blacks rival Panny's anyday (fact not speculation), Either way both are excellent sets and the only prob with the Sony 65" is the possibility of getting one with banding anomaly's.
