    Hi lindseybp and fvbounty,

Count on it. The current market will force retailers to lower prices whether they like it or not. Also, we should remind ourselves that prices on these things are typically highest when they first come out. 3-4 months later they drop (depending on competition, etc.).

Perfect. From what Robert told me, add 2-3 weeks to that for all other retailers, as BB and Samsung have a "special business relationship."

It would be nice if he were able to discern the number of zones, although I'm betting it will be lower than anything else currently on the market. Samsung can obviously get away with inferiority, cheapness & quality-that much is evident through the 6000-8000 releases.

    Hi DVSteve,

Actually, I very much doubt that. I quite expect at least as many zones as found in the A950s; doing otherwise would imperil their leadership position in LED and local dimming technology, which has brought them a lot of money and market share over the past two years. More zones would be nice, but my hunch is they'll just hold the line here until someone makes them move. That's a big part of why I'm hoping LG's 93/95 lines will perform well, as they're thrice-confirmed to have 240 zones now (still no word on the LH90...Clarence is out of his office today). Samsung needs a little "external motivation."

Well, I don't think it will be lower than all the rest but I don't think it will be 240, why? Well just because 128 worked well in the 950 so why change. What they did change was the form factor and that might have been enough, why go in and have to change all the algorithms, that keeps the price down. hahahaha

We shall see. Dropping the use of RGB LEDs to increase the profit margin was just the first step. Dealing with the cheaper 6000 & up edge lit displays, along with all of the problems, probably will make them think of even more ways to cut corners. Especially since their edge lit are selling so well. Call me crazy, but I don't have faith that they will be spending more money to produce a product other than the absolute bare minimum. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult for them to have more or less the same guts from the A950 in the "thin is in" form factor of the new 8500. I'm betting this is a case of marketing over quality.

I should have originally said "lower than or equal to" in my post. I was thinking it, but my fingers didn't end up typing it. I agree with you on all points.

I will try to be positive and put on my optomist hat, although it is leaning heavily to the right, but there is always the chance that they did more than just he bare minimum of making it thin. I actually think it will be slightly better than the 950 just because of technology insertion, way better, probably not, but time will tell.

Thin is in and that is what is selling now. I can't imaging the margin they are getting on those Luxia edge-lit sets!!! Probably would make all of us sick.

I've got my fingers crossed Samsung hits a home run with this tv. We will have to wait and see what happens since we don't have all the details yet, i.e. zones, etc.. I'm eagerly anticipating the first look at these.

I'm with you, hopefully its has good or better than the 950, I almost pulled the trigger on the 950, but the 8500 was so close to coming out, I waited, I hope we're not disappointed!

Well, if the 8500 isn't markedly better than the A950, then it's likely people will either hold off or just buy A950s, and Samsung will take a bath on sales.

Ultimately I'm with flyers on this, though--I kind of doubt the zone-count will change. What financial pressure have they felt to do it? I'm crossing my fingers like lindseybp, but I'm not setting my hopes too high. Now, whether or not they can make significant PQ strides just with improved processing remains to be seen.

    David

Jeez, Ron--don't do stuff like that to me! I can't stand those edge-lit sets. The clouding I saw on Robert's drove me up the wall.

The price of this TV makes me gag. Talk about price gouging for what's essentially going to be a thin A950 with shitty viewing angles. I don't know why people subject themselves to paying for overpriced LCD crap when cheaper and superior plasma tech is available.

Some of us have no choice. My reasons are:

    (1) Phosphor trails. I am wildly sensitive to them. It's like seeing the color flashes from staring at the Sun.

    (2) I use these things as combination tvs and full-time desktop computer monitors. Wanna try that with your plasma?

I'm sure others will have other reasons.

It is Amazing how fast opinions change !

You know im just picking on ya !!!!!!!!

P.S. I remember how much you hated the A850 + B750 and how much Ben-Gay you had to put on your neck due to the poor Off-angle viewing !!!

I'm really interested to see how they pulled off LED Backlighting in only 1.6 inches.
    I own some stuff.
