Hope this TV actually performs well. When I'm in need of a laugh I head over to AVS and read the B6000, 7000 and 8000 owners thread. It's hilarious how many people get this set home and realize just how big a POS it is.

Me too. I find it amazing that so many people there justify all of the various problems.

These people just need to do a little research before they plunk down big money for these sets. I mean it's not like the info isn't out there. I think a lot of folks go into Best Buy, etc. and see how great these sets look and buy one. They don't know to look for the flaws inherent in these sets and you can bet the salespeople aren't going to tell them.

Sometimes I feel bad for these people who post and just have no clue. If I threw down $3k+ for one of these sets and had to immediately have the panel replaced I would be pissed!

    Hi Disco Batman,

True enough, but bear in mind, these locally dimmed sets are nothing like the LED edge-lit sets. A properly calibrated A950 will smack the daylights out of a calibrated 8000 any day. If Samsung did a proper job with the 8500s this time (i.e., if they increased the zone count, improved the cross-talk problems and improved the RG film on the LEDs), then I expect these new t.v.s to perform very well.

Hurry up and ship one to Robert, Samsung!

    Yours,

    David

Well I'm certainly interested in seeing this panel in person. LD LCD's are the only kind that really do anything for me. Now I'm not trying to start a Plasma vs. LCD debate here. But you could buy a 58" V10 for 1700 less and get 3 more inches. Until the prices come down on these high end local dimming sets I just don't see how they are a viable option.

Oh, dude--no contest. If I weren't absurdly sensitive to phosphor trails (I am), I'd have a KRP 500M in my living room right now. Seriously--it would be a no-brainer. Why settle for pretty good when you can get reference-class for less??? Given my situation, though, this is what I'm stuck with until OLED reaches mass availability and costs less than a car.

    David

And where are the specs? Or is it going to involve a lot of guessing and letdowns like with the LH90?

I know the only thing different than the 950 is 240hz from 120, and higher contrast ratio (which is bull anyways 7 million to 1 yea right). I'm like everyone else how many Zones, how many led's ?

    Hi DVSteve,

Knowing Samsung, I expect the latter. They are a company of pathological liars and spin-doctors. In the past they have done everything in their power to prevent discovery of the number of zones and individual LEDs in their LD sets. I would be surprised if they changed their collective tune now, when they feel no financial pressure to do so and pretty much own the LCD market anyway.

Fear not, though--I have ways of discovering at least the number of zones without any nasty, fingernail-biting disassembly. The number of LEDs, the bit-count in the LEDs, and the rest will be much harder to learn. For that, I think one would have to know a high-level Samsung employee.

    Yours,

    David

    Hi Flyers,

I know--I consider September relatively soon, especially in the wake of Sony's announcement that they're postponing the release of their LD sets. I just got off the phone with Robert, and it looks like non-Best Buy retailers should have them in their stores by the end of August. The claimed dates range from 3-5 weeks from today.

    Yours,

    David

All i can say is im a happy camper with the 55A950 ISF- Calibrated or not !

If this successor is truly a full LD LED backlit set and 20% better in PQ to the A950 you wont be dis-satisfied !

They have really dropped the price on this flagship since the 55A950 was right at 5K out the door with sales tax even 9 months after its initial release.

The profit margin on these sets is about as bad as friggin jewelery IMO. Probably costs Samsung less then $600 per unit to build counting parts & assembly line labor across the river !

    Regards, :D

True, but there is R&D costs and that what they try to cover up front with high prices before they drop them to only a 300% margin. lololol

Hopefully some of our valued HDJ etailers will offer a good price. I wouldn't pay $4500 for this but if the price gets lower I am in the game. I know abt is doing pre-orders for $3,999 so hopefully that will be a common price once this set is released.
