I'm pretty sure Bynum is a cap reduction tool. Not sure the mechanics of it all, but I think the Bulls can basically cut him or something and save a shit load of cap space.

Apparently Bynum's 2nd year of his 2 year deal wasn't guaranteed, and only half of his first year was guaranteed, so the Bulls freed up like $20 million in cap space by waiving him (getting them under the luxury tax threshold), and they also got a bunch of draft picks out of it. So it should be good for the Bulls in the long run, and its certainly good for the Cavs, as they could actually be a contender in the very weak Eastern conference.

And yeah, Bynum sucks. Doesn't look good for him in the future. But who knows, the Milwaukee Bucks will probably pick him up and give him a bunch of money so they can contend for the 8th playoff seed
