    Default Audyssey Pro Calibration Results

    werthliving.com

Chad B was able to find a problem with my sub settings and found the fronts and center to perform well at 60hz instead of 80hz.

Overall sound is more powerful now and warmer; subs really really kick after watching some familiar content.

Yeah, if you look at all the speakers they drop after 40 hz, but something in audyssey allows it to boost low end on the speakers but not on the sub. If I understand Chad correctly, Audyssey will not boost the low end on a sub if it feels it may overdrive it. Once he made a few tweaks to the sub settings, audyssey felt OK and then made that ruler flat line. So whats been happening all along, even though I was happy with the subs, is movie bass below 40hz has had a large fall off. Should have a very nice improvement during action flicks. I was watching act of valor, and their M16 single shot sounds were kicking my chair, pretty f'n cool. Also made a door in the kitchen rattle during dark night thats never rattled before.

Also interesting that he went with 60hz on the Klipsch towers, and they handled it fine.

Even at 60hz, in a big action scene at high volume, the 8" woofers werent even moving a lot and not breaking a sweat.

Hmm. I wonder how well 6 inches would handle it? My towers have 4 of them.

Not sure. I never used 60hz and just stuck with THX 80hz, but when he ran Audyssey Pro it gives him the top 3 settings recommendation for each speaker. For my fronts it had 1 as full range, 2 as 60 and 3 as 80, same with the center.

I think so far the center sounds better on 60hz, more full.

Whats the freq response on your speakers?

my fronts are 33hz to 24khz so 60 should be fine.

my center is 57hz to 24khz so 60hz on it is kinda tight but it sounds good so far.

My fronts are 30-25hz. My center is 53-25hz. Been running at 80 across the front. 120 at the rear.

Should be able to do 60hz fine. You could always try both on something familiar and see what you think.

Im only running 3.2 right now. Ive had two audio guys in my living room and their input on 5.2 here was not good. I just decided to punt until we build.

Dual 8-inch drivers have about the effective radiating area of a single 14-inch driver. You would have to push them very, very hard at 60 Hz to see much movement.

Four 6-inch drivers have the effective radiating area of a single 16- to 18-inch driver. Unless the enclosure is tuned to a surprisingly high frequency, they should be very happy at 60 Hz.

Freek has no trouble pushing his speakers beyond reasonable loudness...lol

I have never pushed mine past acceptable levels. Never , ever. Acceptable is relative though. Lol
