I hope you all really appreciate your audio equipment. I started in the late 1960s with Fisher Electronics, a Dual 1019 turntable, and AR-3a speakers. There are some incredible pieces out there, but I have green issues. I will be getting a Panny 65VT30 soon (Sept. or Oct.). Maybe the audio gods will smile upon me in 2012. My most recent acquisition is adding Anthem's ARC (Audio Room Correction). I think it is incredible. The best $300 I ever spent. It is all about the music and this brings me closer to the music.

Those are amazing comments - we all love our audio. I wish I could spend more on it, cause it is super important to me. I guess once my kids are out of college I can have more money for myself.

Nice! The KAV-1500 is one beefy mofo, isn't it? I bet you can fry eggs on it after watching a movie!

It can get hot. But not nearly as hot as some of their bigger amps. I have heard stories about the KSA-250 getting so hot you could use it as a space heater..........

I still have not gotten around to replacing the fuse's. Couple years ago. Krell was offering $150 to KAV 1500 owners and $100 to other KAV owners (forget the exact model numbers) if you fell in a certain time frame that they were built. Krell had a recall because a few caught fire. They sent you the check to replace the fuses yourself. The new fuses with lower amperage and instructions. I never abuse the amp so I am not in a hurry to replace the fuses.....

Yeah, I remember reading about that LOL Are we talking the fuses on the power supply board, or those in the output stage of the amp (I can't really recall whether the KAV 1500 has those; I know the TAS does)? What player are you using with your Krells?

Don't know. The instructions say the 1500 has 5 rails each with 2 fuses that need to be replaced. I never opened up the amp....

(edit) Just realized your asking about a Blu Ray player not an SACD player. A Sony BDP-S780.....

I have a Krell SACD MKII. If I had the $$ I would go for the update to the MKIII version. Think it costs $1500. I got lucky. About 6 years ago I bought the original SACD off audiogon for $2300. The seller bought it from an authorized dealer. He paid list price. He included the receipt. After 6 months it developed transport problems. Sent it back. Krell fixed it. Broke again after a week. I sent it back. Got an e-mail from Patrick Bresnahan saying the best thing to do is give me a brand new MKII version which was just about to come out. But he said I would have to wait about 3 weeks until it's built. I said no problem. I couldn't believe I was getting a brand new updated SACD with another 5 years of warranty....

I saw some-where Bresnahan came back to Krell after leaving. Glad he did (hope hes still there). He was really a friendly-helpful person to deal with....

Those sound like the fuses on the individual amplifier boards (not the power supply). The TAS has them too: two fuses per amplifier board, times five amplifier boards (not sure that's the correct term for them, though - I'm improvising LOL). I replaced mine with copper bars which I had made to match the exact size required, and everything sounds so much better. I'm not sure it would be safe to do the same on the KAV-1500 because of the heating problems it had; I didn't notice any change in the amount of heat generated by the TAS after replacing thoses fuses with the copper bars, but then again the TAS never had a heating problem to begin with. Anyway, I don't have any pictures of the operation handy but next month I'll be replacing my rack and should be able to open up the amp and take pictures more easily, so stay tuned for a visual update

Just in case anyone reading this post was wondering: never, ever, under ANY circumstances replace the fuses on the power supply board of ANY piece of equipment with copper bars! Doing so would result in permanent damage to your unit, most likely making it catch fire or explode. If in doubt, do nothing.

Oh, and cool beans about the Krell SACD player! I've never auditioned a Krell player but I'm a huge fan of the brand, so chances are I would greatly enjoy it! What brand/model of speakers are you running with all that raw power?

I have Krell Resolution 1's. A Krell Resolution C center channel and for the time being as rears I am useing my old Kappa 9's. I have a Velo DD-18 sub. I love the Krells. I got a really good deal 2 year's ago off audiogon for the 1's. The seller was useing a big Krell 700CX with them. I can just imagine the power they can put out. Also last year off audiogon I got a good deal from stereo designs in SD for the center channel. It was brand new and comes with the warrany as they are a Krell dealer. They were looking at their stock and had thought the carton was empty.....

If you don't mind and have time. I see you have the HTS 7.1. What settings are you useing for the parametric equalizer?? Just curious. Sounds like you have good ears.....

    Hi Cygnus,

you have a truly stellar audio setup! Long live Krell

I'm not using the EQ, and never will. I'm one of those purists who like their signal untouched and unprocessed, as my experience suggests all kinds of DSPs are highly detrimental to sound quality and cause more trouble than they're trying to solve. Active equalization is especially bad at that, as it literally squashes the dynamics and impact of sound, thus turning it to a flat and dull series of anemic impulses that feel like driving an older car uphill with the handbrake pulled. The worst sounding setups I've ever auditioned were those in which active EQ had been extensively used to obtain a perfectly flat frequency response curve.
I'm well aware of the acustic limits of my listening environment, and I plan on improving them after the summer, but it'll be the least amount of passive EQ that is strictly necessary to remove the most glaring flaws and nothing more. Passive EQ is a better solution than active EQ, but it's easy to get carried away and apply too much absorbtion, thus decreasing the achievable sound pressure dramatically - and I value sound pressure and physical impact a lot (which is why I love Krell in the first place).

Btw, keep an eye on Audiogon for a HTS 7.1: they can be had for under $2,000 now and are worth every penny. You'd be amazed what this pre/pro can do!

    Thanx Much.....

I was actually interested in doing that when i had $$ available.......Are you familiar with the Krell S1000 PrePro as compared to the HTS 7.1. The cost for them are really starting to come down......

    Hi Cygnus,

I've auditioned the S-1200 in my setup, and I was quite disappointed with its performance compared to my HTS 7.1. I honestly doubt it would do any better than the Showcase you already own (the S-1000 is the pre-HD audio version of the S-1200).

    Hey evil

    Thanx Much for the info....

Thought you would say that about the S-1000. Not 2 many were happy with that from what I have seen. Surprised thought about the S-1200 (not that I have the $$ to get it). Will keep an eye out for the HTS 7.1.....

For home cinema I have a Pioneer BDP160, Denon AVR2809 (old but HD, so still good) and B&W M1's/ sub. I keep a separate music system - Naim UnitiLite - which also streams music as well as playing CD's.
