Default Should I go refurbished or wait?

    werthliving.com

    hi guys,

I am torn between some choices and I thought I put it out here.
Option A is to wait for 65" HX929. Looks like its being pushed back even more.
Option B is wait looong enough for new Elite to become affordable (~5k for 70")
Option C is to purchase a refurbished 55" B8500. I have always seen this set as if it is a window into heaven itself.
Here are some facts on the samsung UN55B8500 unit:
bigoutlet.com is selling this refurbished unit for $1649.99 + $160 shipping. Both on the site and ebay. BBB rating is A-.
monthlywarranty.com coverage is available for ~$300 for 5 years. BBB rating is A.

I called up the online store and Jermaya addressed all my questions. Apparently they have received a big batch of B8500 s directly from Samsung as Factory Refurbished. The unit is in sealed samsung box comes with all original contents (manual, etc) and is in like new condition. Comes with 90 days Samsung warranty + optional coverage.
If unit is damaged or defective, they will do evenexchange or refund.

Soooo, from you guys that own this unit, do you think its wise to go with option C and buy a TV that was released 2 years ago? or would you say look into future and wait for options A and B?

i think going the refurb route seems a little iffy, and not such a great price. otoh, if they did a cap swap and or board and can prove it maybe so. the 8500 is a great set ,but it's starting to show it's age a little. any thought into the lg lv9500 it goes for 1600.00 on hsn.com.

thanks, there is something about the B8500 that keeps me going back to it. I doubt the LG can be anywhere as good as it.
Also, I am going to bug you again with this question, How does that new Elite of yours compare to the B8500? Does it POP like the sammy?

But which is better in your honest opinion? I have a B8500 as well and I am on the fence about buying the Elite.

during the day it's negligible...i would probably give the elite the edge at night. do to better blooming control and a little better off-axis. just get both....lol...

Is it that much better to spend 7K on? Is the blooming control and better off-axis the only thing better?

no, the elite is way overpriced. it also has lots of bugs that need to be worked out.(60"set) i would seriously hold off for now.

what's the reason for selling?? my 8500 psu crapped out. samsung extended my warranty and sent out a local repair shop who swapped out the bad psu. good to go now *knock on wood*.

Bought 8500 Mar of 2010, had no problem till click of death started, first time unplugged till clicking stopped and it came back on, now just clicks even after being unplugged for a day. Had the good advice to buy a 5 yr extended warranty for $300.00 so tech coming to fix. Would have thought Samsung would be more active in repairing their products.

Hi guys - I've recently noticed some discoloration on a pure white screen. The blotchiness varies from a slight blue/purple in some areas and pinkish in others. This is seen on all HDMi inputs with varied sources so it's is definitely the panel. Any ideas? I have a 4 yr warranty that I'm thinking of utilizing to get it checked out.

Hello I was wondering if anyone had some sound calibrations for this set? I moved into a new apartment and I don't currently have my sound system hooked up and not sure if I'm going to with the walls being so thin. Going to have to use the TV sound for now.

Not to resurrect a dead thread but just wanted to comment I have had this tv for over six years and it is still running today perfectly like it did on day one. I guess I am lucky as I know others have had some issues. I'm finally going to upgrade to an LG OLED set in the coming weeks.
